Former F1 driver Anthony Davidson sees Lewis Hamilton as Max Verstappen`s only rival in 2023.


This season, Verstappen became the champion for the second time, while Hamilton did not actually participate in the fight for the title due to the backlog of Mercedes from Red Bull.


I see the only pilot who can throw a serious challenge - Lewis Hamilton. Riders who are among the greatest in history are rare. It`s great that we see the emergence of a new such pilot. They set guidelines. As one pilot gets older, the next one comes along.


But nothing can be taken for granted. I don`t know who will be the new Max Verstappen who will one day fight him. However, at the moment, Lewis is undoubtedly still good enough. He is the only one who can take this fight.


The problem is that with age you lose a little in speed. This hasn`t happened to Lewis yet, but at some point it`s inevitable, so Max has the advantage.


I have seen generational change in Formula 1 many times. Ayrton Senna replaced Alain Prost in the fight for the title of best pilot. Then we saw the rise of Michael Schumacher, who supplanted Senna as he got older. Lewis ousted Schumacher and now Verstappen has arrived. The battle is not entirely fair in many ways, because Verstappen is 25 years old - almost ten years younger than Lewis. This is a generational change, a cyclical process. And it`s great that we see the emergence of new talent - this does not happen so often, - said the ex-racer and Sky Sports pundit.
